39 Unbanked Rural Centres launched by Ujjivan Small Finance Bank

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank has launched 39 Unbanked Rural Centres in the East region. The Indian citizens in rural areas will now be able to avail banking services in these centres. These rural centres have been set up in unbanked areas of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura and Orissa.

It has been the aim of Delhi Government to make banking services accessible to the rural people and thus bring more people into the formal banking system. Also, Reserve Bank of India has made it mandatory for the banks to open 25% of their new branches in the unbanked rural areas as part of the financial inclusion plan. It granted permission to the domestic Scheduled Commercial Banks including Public-sector banks to open branches in rural areas without any necessity of prior-approval from RBI.

The 39 centres have been receiving tremendous response with the residents availing banking services from them. Apart from these centres, the bank has also set up 7 Business Correspondents in Howrah and Hoogly district of West Bengal wherein people are seeking financial support for agriculture, weaving and other businesses. To get more unbanked and underbanked customers into the formal banking system and help them be a part of Digital India is the aim of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
